Requiem: "An act or token of remembrance"
In April 2014, Glasgow City Council announced its [ridiculous] plans to blow up the iconic Red Road towers, live, during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Provoked, I made this drawing as a requiem for Glasgow, a homage to those tower blocks past and present which will one day all be gone; Red Road, the Gallowgate twins, Basil Spence in the Gorbals, and the painted Sony tower, surrounded by the wee houses which replace them.
In the midst of creating the drawing, the [first] tragic fire struck Glasgow School of Art, the reason for it's prominence in the composition.
